A value system keeps our thinking buoyant.

If we sink into a recession it is really more like an economic depression that means the focus of our hopes and dreams becomes blurred by doubt.

Doubt created by a lack of opportunity.

Perhaps our value system is suffering some kind of corrosion where everything associated with it is oxidising or something?

There could be serious implications that come with this, for without the prospect of becoming affluent, the value system could really go bang as belief in it sinks with declining expectation. Capital
acquisition is a motivating force unless something else take its place.

We could hope that there was a renaissance in artistic culture,  new values of philosophical debate and investigation, as people started to take seriously the idea that positive change can come from positive endeavour, or maybe this is too idealistic to think like this now?
